Competition is a big part of what we do at Bromsgrove Swimming Club and we enjoy a friendly rivalry with local clubs when we come up against them at galas and swim meets as well as travelling further afield with our most talented swimmers. There’s something for everyone to enjoy, whatever their age as we also have a Masters squad.

Competitions allow us to bond as a team and spend time with our friends as well as track progress and assess strengths and weaknesses. We adopt a process-based approach whereby our swimmers are coached not to focus on the outcome of a race but to focus on executing the components that make it up.

Competition develops valuable skills, such as self-esteem, self-efficacy, and the value of hard work.

There are 3 types of competition. There are team competitions (galas) where a team will be selected and then one swimmer will represent the club in each race to earn points. These are generally held on Saturday evenings and may last 2-3 hours.

Open Meets involve the swimmer choosing which events they wish to enter during the competition which will usually take place over 2-3 days. If a participant achieves set qualifying times, they may then become eligible to compete at County, Regional and National Level events. Bromsgrove Swimming Club has had success at all levels in recent years.
